Nostalgia by PrismLens FX
Last year I decided to buy some filters. Been hearing wonders about some brands and decided they were a nice and afordable upgrade for me. The things they don’t warn you about filters is that results vary a lot and to use them properly it requires some trial and error to get the desired effect. But that is a topic for a diferent time (and maybe a youtube video).
I fell in love with the Nostalgia filter by PrismLens FX ever since I saw it. PrismLens FX created this filter by carefully mixing a soft sepia filter with a Black Mist filter effect (branded by them as Dream filter). This mix gives the filter not just some warm tones but also softer hilights.
Side by side comparison. No filter on the left.
The effect is subtle but noticible. I struggled for some time to get the effect I wanted out of it but it was worth it. The vibe I got on my photos was great and filters are a huge time saver. Having the effects on camera saves me a lot of time editing.
Am I going to use this filter on every shoot? No. Will I use it on specific projects to have this mood? A huge YES. One of the things I noticed while making this test shoot is that my model got to see the mood I was going to portray and was able to lean in to that felling for the shots.
