The Importance of Doing.
I am a pro level procrastinator.
I am the kind of person that leaves every thing to the last minute. That usually doesn’t bother me that much but I started noticing some signs about my procrastination that were not helping me with my creative work.
1- I had an ideia but gave up on it
I always have tons of creative ideias for projects, but, when its time to actually do them I take so long to do them that I ended up giving up on them. And it’s not because the ideas are bad it’s because the more time passes another ideia comes and usually I end up not doing 60% of my ideias.
The solution I found for that: put all my ideias in writing. Might sound stupid but that way I have a fisical reminder that those ideas exist and if I am on a creative blank I always have ideas to shoot.
2- Too much stuff to edit
I hate editing. the less time I spend editing the better. And there is where my procrastination came in to play. Leaving important work to edit last minute is not a good practice and leads to worst results
Solution: edit in small batches. Edit small parts of a project each time, I found that doing that helped me to focus more and got things done way faster insted of spending too much time editing just one project.
3- Lost the timing for oportunities
This one was the wake up call for me. Timing plays an huge roll on creative works. Working with brands, with some people or time sensitive projects require a good deal of organization. I lost some projects due to not beeing organised enough.
Solution: Organize your schedule better. No easy tip on this one. It all relies on us.
This was suposed to be a simple blog post telling you about an idea I had and how I’ve made a video about it but (no surprises) i procrastinated too much and I lost the timing of the video release.
In conclusion don’t leave your ideas behind, procrastination is a bad habit and the habit of not doing will not help anyone. Hope this helps you.
PS: here is the video anyway, the timing is off but the story is still cool.
